Interspersed with the occasional paella and life-altering tapa, a very productive and thought-provoking consortium meeting was held for the SUPER MoRRI project in Valencia between the 3rd and 4th of June.
With a background featuring questions such as: ‘what is the goal of this project, this monitoring system, and RRI in general’, and continuing with a detailed critical reflection of each and every indicator proposed and used within MoRRI, crucial conversations and conclusions were abundant throughout the consortium meeting. The space for taking a few steps back and seeing SUPER MoRRI in the broader policy, society, and SWAFS contexts featured prominently during the meetings and resulted in exciting plans for theoretical and empirical exploration. Fueled by bitter cortados, the path for SUPER MoRRI was laid in a flurry of inspiration, creativity, and desire for a more socially responsible research and innovation system.
With each member thoroughly informed, inspired, and some likely a little bitter about having to leave the beautiful city of Valencia, we soon had to depart back to our home institutions. The next steps for SUPER MoRRI are clear: continue with exploring and evaluating our indicators, critically reflect on what changes need to be made to reflexively nourish RRI throughout the European research area, and plan our upcoming stakeholder meeting (in Brussels on September 10th!).
